hearing test

We went to the doctor's again. Mom's best friend is a doctor, who arranged her friends to check on me. I had bronchitis last week, saw a doctor in the city. We came to Ankara to grandparents so that I can get better and see another doctor. Doctor, mom's friend, said I am totally healed. We saw an ENT specialist, who cleaned the yucky stuff in my ears, and checked on the tubes. We then saw an audiologist, the room was different than the ones in the US. I was grumpy, it was just before my sleep in the afternoon, I was already out for some time, so we will go tomorrow and repeat the test. Then we went to get the molds from the local Phonak company. Everybody was so nice. Dad asked whether they have any small clients, and they showed all the little molds they have prepared. The woman taking the molds said after newborn screening test in Turkey, doctors start early intervention (putting hearing aids as early as 3 months). The head of the office said though a child's communciation skills depend on the interest of good parents, more than the cooperation of a good team of ENT specialist, audiologist and a speech therapist. They also sell FM systems for children at school age and told children with hearing loss can go to regular schools. We have seen children at different ages with hearing aids today. Some of the aids were really small, almost not visible, and the children were all able to speak. We did not hear about the level of their hearing loss, but it seems there is lots going on in Turkey in terms of early intervention and hearing loss therapy.
